Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed one homework assignment that coupled naming with balancing equations. We did a short lesson on how to name compounds (molecular and ionic as well as transition metals). We then used that to convert word equations to balanced chemical equations. The student seemed to understand the concept fairly well. She was able to do two of them on her own. She was initially having a bit of trouble with the naming of the transition metal compounds, but by the end, she seemed to understand. She was able to balance the equations entirely on her own. Overall, I believe she understands this material well."
"Today was all about thermodynamics. We covered some of the first law, along with a few other random thermodynamic equations. As long as he pays close attention to units and does his dimensional analysis, he should be able to finish this assignment and do well on future work."
"In this session we worked on problems involving pH, pOH, [H+], and [OH-]. The student understands the math involved. With more practice she should have this topic down."
"We reviewed acid, oxyacid, and BL acid/base theory. We discussed the rules for naming each type of acid and did several practice questions regarding these topics. We finished with determining OH-, pH, and pOH from H+ concentrations. We will meet on Tuesday to further practice."
"We reviewed the student's notes on stoichiometry and did a couple practice problems. We also touched base on energy (endothermic and exothermic reactions). We also discussed her pre-lab in detail and solved the questions together."
"The student and I reviewed her notes and worksheet pertaining to the ideal gas law as well as partial pressures. We also reviewed how all variable relationship equations can be derived from the ideal gas law."
