"After giving the student tips on how to break several types of Physics questions down and what to look for, she was better able to solve these questions. Her homework is to do a practice test 3 and report her results."
"Today's session included going over more passages. I left the student with 6 passages to do (2 in each section). It is clear that the student has a solid foundation of the sciences necessary for the test. I will continue to keep doing more practice passages with the student until the date of the test."
"The student and I had a very productive session this afternoon. As usual, we spent our time reviewing biology content. We began with evolution, a topic that is both commonly tested and easy to master. After talking about the three types of natural selection, Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, and speciation, we moved on to Mendelian genetics, a topic that the student already understood fairly well. Finally, we covered the endocrine system (both organs and hormones). Our time flew by! We both feel very good about today."
"We spent the first hour of the session going through sample passages under a timed setting. She managed to get complete most of the passages close to the time required and was getting only about one question wrong out of the six, so she felt a little better after practicing. I told her to continue focusing on the main theme of the passage and to practice individual passages under timed scenarios for the next week. We spent the last half of the session going over questions she had on science, including chemical kinetics, and light and optics. She is going to start doing practice exams, so our focus will be on those going forward."
"We worked through 2 example passages in Biological Sciences to show him how to practice mapping passages and translating things into his own words (e.g. using acronyms, leaving details for later). It was a lot of information, but I believe he felt more comfortable with the material, and I also showed him how useful it would be to start with Biology passages and transition to Verbal."
"[COVERED]: We discussed a verbal passage on so-called "elderly poetry." The passage triggered a slew of etymology-driven vocabulary mini-lessons. [PROGRESS/CHALLENGES]: The student has done a great job holding onto prior vocab lessons and is taking well to the power of etymology-driven vocab. [EXTRA PRACTICE]: More passages."
