"Student and I began by discussing her experience with the MCAT thus far. She has taken it twice and been unhappy with her verbal score both times, so we will be working exclusively on verbal strategies and practice passages. We began with some practice from the review notes in distinguishing main idea from detail. She had some trouble with this, but began to get the hang of it after more practice. We then worked through a passage from AAMC #3 together, taking notes on each paragraph and comparing what she would normally write with what I would write. She then answered the questions very well using our map and notes on the passage. I then had her do a difficult passage on her own and timed, which she had more trouble with, but this was a very difficult passage that she should not feel discouraged about. She understood quite a bit and made an excellent map from this abstract passage on Confucius and Li, which is what mattered more than getting all the questions correct. We will continue working through passages and strategy together."
"Went over kinematics, optics (Snell's law and critical angle), and Doppler effect (equation, and red vs. blue shifts)."
"We covered magnetism and isomerism. The student had questions about circular motion and applying the equations she had memorized for magnetic force to the 3D spaces in which they were applied. When it came to isomers, we focused on the mental rotations of 3D molecules, and I showed her how to use Fisher diagrams for this. She had a few questions about boat and chair conformations that I was able to answer successfully."
