Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today was a very good, productive day. The student was sharp, motivated, and alert. We spent most of our time divided between English characterization from To Kill a Mockingbird and history. Math- The student has been doing the packets beautifully. He says a test is imminent, but no date has been specified yet. Science: We will read chapter 8 and define all highlighted and italicized words at our next session. We will also go over the old test questions. We will do this for every chapter from here on out. English: We discussed the student's characterization assignment due next Monday. It is to be typed with 'internal' and 'external' sections, and each source should have a page referenced in parentheses. I reviewed a draft of the student's assignment, and he will complete it before our next session. Spanish: We continued working on the flashcards for complete mastery for the quiz this week. The student had practiced and is prepared for the quiz. History: We spent a great deal of time reading up on the end of WWII and the start of the Cold War. This teacher enjoys pop-quizzing the students, so we will continue to review every new lesson."
"The student's more pressing concerns at the moment are her finals, so we took a small break from entrance exam prep and worked on organizing her history study guide. We decided to be detailed, as she has two weeks to study, so today was mostly based on the unit with the most information--the American Revolution. We made a timeline with important details, made notes about terms that were important, and, at the end of the session, reviewed everything that we had been over. I think our major issue will be making sure she connects the dots between cause and effect (which also makes it much easier to remember). I'm confident we'll be able to put her in a good place."
"We studied for an upcoming test on European history, going over the study guide, working on vocabulary and creating a note card to use on the test."
