Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This session focused on a few math questions that the student had, and then we then looked at some rate problems. For the last hour, we focused on the writing sections. I had her work through prompts, gathering an adequate number of argument points. She then composed introductory paragraphs for me for these. I gave her an extra 15 minutes or so, as I felt she needed to work though some of these together with me."
"The GRE is definitely coming up quickly. Today we covered all three major sections of the test: Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical Writing, and how to make the most improvement in only two days. We specifically covered a few GRE tips that save time including: looking for paired words, using the 3 GRE triangles, reading for comprehension, and eliminating answers before going back to the text or problem that don't make sense. We left with a lot of practice, but this was my last session with her before the exam so despite the chapters and practice tests, we also talked about sleep habits before an exam and how it important it is to bring a snack to a test like the GRE. We also discussed how to move forward into the application process from the exam. The student has a lot of really strong skills but is close to the exam and feeling a little anxious. We talked about prepping for these feelings as well, and I think she will do swimmingly."
"Today we continued our discussion of plugging in numbers before drilling exponents, common Pythagorean triples, and ratios."
