Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student was very excited to be working through his math problems. We are working on preparing him for his final exam that is next Wednesday. He brought materials to the session, a final exam review worksheet, and we worked through about half of the problems during the first session. I am sending him homework for long division review. The rest of the review problems, he was able to complete and understand very well. I look forward to working with him as he prepares for his exam."
"Worked on completing the student's packet questions. Topics included factoring polynomials, long division, zeros/roots of a function, margin of error, upper and lower confidence levels for a data set, exponential equations, etc."
"Today, we worked on the review of the rational expressions chapter in the lead up to the test on it. The student is solidly understanding the ways to use least common denominator to simplify expressions but is still somewhat shaky on simplification. I believe this is just a matter of practice and will bring a few sample problems to the session today to reinforce the idea."
"We began with what the student was a little stuck on, which was word problems. We created our own real-world word problems then tried to solve them. By the end of the session, we were solving increases and decreases using mental math. Excellent first session!"
"In this session, the student and I went over a review packet that he had mostly completed for his upcoming test on piecewise functions. Overall, he had done a great job working out the problems and only had a few issues to correct. This included showing his work for calculating y-intercepts for functions that did not include x=0 in their domains. He had done this calculation in his head and it occasionally got him to an incorrect answer, so we worked on using the y=mx+b formula to calculate it algebraically. Additionally, we worked on writing quadratic functions within piecewise constraints and answering word problems related to a piecewise graph. The student seemed very well prepared for his test."
"I assisted the student with his ACT preparation. We completed the section we began yesterday and I made sure that he understood how to solve all of the problems in that section. I also assigned him some homework, i.e. 30 minutes of practice on another science section. Tomorrow we will begin work on another subject of the ACT."
