Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student worked on English, math, U.S. history, and science today. He worked on his science homework (and we debated whether or not Pluto was considered a "planet"), and we went over basic (and detailed) concepts regarding the branches of U.S. government. We also went over mixed fractions on his school laptop. Overall, he was attentive for this tutoring session, and seemed to have a better grasp on the material than last time."
"Today I worked on the concept of negative numbers and related it to the real world. I presented analogies the student could understand to help build a construct of how to work with negative numbers. We also worked with algebraic equations to represent the examples. He understands the concept presented."
"We reviewed problems on old tests. We were able to finish Test 11. The student has a talent for mental math, but sometimes this can be a detriment to her. She tends to rush through problems and make small mistakes, causing her to get the wrong answer. I think that slowing down, writing out each step she does, making sure she reads each problem carefully, and double checking her answers will greatly improve her test scores. The student also needs help with fractions and percents. Other than that, she seems to have a firm grasp on the topics presented and is confident in her abilities. We will work on the problem points more next time."
"We focused on 5th grade math including rounding up to the ten millions, word problems with estimation, adding and subtracting using estimation and checking answers. He also worked on putting events in order from an informative text. The student did great today!"
"I introduced fifth and sixth grade problems and concepts to student. As usual, she was very eager, and is motivated by immediate feedback on her work."
"I met with the student to practice double digit addition with regrouping. He used base ten models to begin. I then had the student solve without the use of models. He was able to recall facts. We then completed a number challenge, which help the student explore multiple ways to represent a numerical value."
