Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During our session, we worked on understanding correlation vs. causation and finding the correlation coefficients given data. The student also worked on providing a verbal interpretation of the correlation coefficient calculated."
"I covered the normal distribution, reading z scores from a normal table and applying it to finding percentiles. We went through some practice problems. The student had particular trouble understanding how read the normal table but was able to grasp the material."
"In this session, we covered her HW#6. Specifically, she is to identify an empirical journal article and discuss the statistics used in the article but interpret those statistics in her own words. We covered some of the statistics used in the paper, including means and chi-square statistics. Her write-up is supposed to be 2-3 paragraphs long. We will be scheduling another session tomorrow afternoon to prepare her for her quiz. Her optimism and determination make her such a pleasure to work with."
"She and I met yesterday, and our session went much better than previous ones; it seemed to be much more productive. We worked extensively on box plots: drawing them, interpreting them, converting a histogram to box plot, and matching scenarios (SAT scores of a class or heights of students) to the proper histogram. She seemed to grasp these concepts much better than some of our previous work. We worked through her "activity" worksheet from her teacher, as well as some of her homework. We tried to work through example problems of each, and she will finish the rest on her own. She is going to be finding out when her next test is so that we can make sure we have a session right before, but for now we will keep her regular Monday slot. I have found some videos online that I am going to send her to provide some supplemental instruction in between our meetings."
"She had an exam she wanted to go over, so I helped her with the general statistic questions. Some of the questions were for SAS. "
"The client and I finished up her coursework. We reviewed important concepts from her introductory statistics homework. We discussed her APA paper/article critique. We covered many topics. The major focus tonight was all aspects of correlation."
