Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, we covered some problems dealing with point estimation, interval estimation, and area under the normal curve when dealing with means."
"In tonight's session, the student worked on 3rd-grade math practice assessment testing and word problems. I had her read each problem aloud and explain how she would solve it to find what they are looking for. She will need more practice on this concept, and we will work on more word problems Wednesday. Her mom is getting me in touch with her teachers so we can also work on her IEP goals."
"It was fun to work with the student. We went over his assignment on exercises on compound interest and on classifying triangles. He was well prepared. I reminded him of the formula for compound interest: if the rate is 5% compounded annually for n years, you multiply the principal by 1.05^n (not 1.5^n). For enrichment, we made a table showing $100 invested at 10% for 8 years of results; the money more than doubles. I showed him the rule of 72 for calculating doubling time. Compound interest is one of the most important things to learn in school."
"It was great to meet you! We worked on factoring polynomials, which we will continue on Tuesday. You had very little trouble graphing the inequality - just don't let < vs > get to you. I will look over the review you're sending, and be ready to factor polynomials with two variables and discuss unions [A u B] on Tuesday, plus whatever comes next in the review. Text me if you have any questions between now and then!"
"It was our first session, and I could tell the student wanted to understand the concepts and do well on her test the following day. She's very responsive, and she likes to write what I have written so that she can see it and remember it. I was able to clarify the concepts for her and she caught on quickly and was able to do different problems."
"It's always great working with the student. This time he's reviewing for a test on probability, so we walked through the simple rules, then the general rules, and were able to look at some easy and some complex questions. He said he was feeling good about things!"
