The student and I went over a practice ACT, and focused on the science section especially. He is naturally very strong in this section, and should have no problem scoring very highly. As with most test-takers, speed is the biggest issue. Hopefully going through a whole science section will help him feel more comfortable with the material, and he will be able to speed through the easier questions.

We covered the student's mistakes from the first practice SAT in the test prep book and some extra writing and math examples. She was struggling the most with the math section (specifically geometry). I did not see any scores/grades to note progress. I left her with the second practice SAT in the test prep book (up until section 6). I have no concerns from this session.

I graded the student's essay outline and found it to be a great start, as she had a strong focus. She had a few issues with linking her examples back to the thesis, and we also worked through ensuring that an essay stays on topic. We worked through the chapters assigned for homework and identified some issues with functions. We then did a few practice problems relating to those concepts from one of my review books. We finished out with a vocabulary and writing multiple choice practice. For homework I assigned her an SAT practice test to gauge her progress.

This was my first session with the student, so I used it to gauge where she is, generally speaking, in her practice for the ACT. She just took the test yesterday, so we talked about that for a little while and I got her comments and opinions on how it went and what sections she struggles with the most. She said that the ACT science section was especially challenging for her, so I had her go through one of those and then we went over the errors she made. We also discussed general strategies for success on the science section, and I think she was feeling much more confident about it when we were done.

I gave the student the vocabulary quiz. She took the ACT yesterday, and said that she felt it was "very easy." We went over geometry concepts from the web site, particularly those involving circles. Once she had the formulas memorized, she completed the problems easily. We moved on to a math SAT section.

Yesterday we met for our first critical reading session. We went through the chapters in the book for vocabulary questions and passage-based ones and went over strategies for them both. We did a few practice problems in each too to give them an idea of what they are like. We were able to finish the chapter, so I assigned them some homework.
