Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In today's session, the student and I worked through the next few sections in the current chapter about rational functions. Our main focus of session was determining vertical, horizontal, and oblique asymptotes of rational functions. We applied the simplifying techniques studied in the previous sections to determine the domain of particular rational functions and determining the vertical asymptotes and points of discontinuity. He had more questions on determining the horizontal asymptotes. There are several different situations involved based on the degree of the numerator vs denominator. We broke it down into cases, and which case involved the most work to solve. He is going to work on exercises relating to this material and we will review and continue the chapter next session."
"The student is undertaking a project to prepare for the upcoming ACT exam. We're using an ACT prep guide to implement the topics and info she needs to tackle the exam. We went over the area and circumference of a circle, and solved two equations with two unknowns."
"The student needed help with 11th grade math. She has just started school and is going over Algebra 2 concepts before starting trigonometry. We worked on two worksheets testing the concept of function domain and ranges. We also went over graphing inverse functions. She is good with math and catches on to concepts quickly. She was enthusiastic to learn."
"This session covered trig topics of graphing functions and solving some trig word problems. The student struggles with fractions, so I recommended reviewing that material. She has a positive attitude and seems to be gaining confidence."
"This session was an addition to supplement the material we covered earlier this evening. We finished up the problems related to inverse secant, cosecant, and cotangent functions, and discussed solutions to optimization problems using trig identities."
"This session we mostly went over trigonometry, specifically graphing trigonometric equations using concepts from the unit circle which we covered the week before. We also covered the basics of trigonometric identities. The student struggled at the beginning with grasping the concepts, but after a brief review of the previous week's material he seemed to understand the concepts. I left the student with videos to watch."
