Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on the review for her test on Tuesday, and focused on parabola calculations for vertex, focus, and directrix, with the given equations for different parabolas. She is working hard to understand the concepts, and she is able to work problems on her own. She feels more confident about knowing how to attack the problems. She is improving and making progress in the right direction. Her motivation is good, and she is doing well on the work that I assigned."
"The student and I worked on topics concerning finance. We worked through the definitions and when to use simple and compound interest, which he now fully understands. We then moved to practicing the sample problems that were provided with his packet. Solving these problems showed where his lack of understanding was, which was actually in the solution of linear equations, and was very productive. We finished by working through some unit conversion problems involving currency rates. I was able to show him how this was the exact same process that he used in his previous chemistry course to do unit conversion. This brought about a better understanding for him."
"The student and I worked on Trigonometry. He has a test tomorrow, and we went over the problems that will be on his test. We went over converting degrees into radians and back; we then covered how to find the angle along with the unit circle. Then, we covered the six trigonometric function; sine, cosine, tangent; and their inverse functions. I had him complete a few problems, and he seemed to be understanding the material. I gave him some strategies for taking the test and told him to go over the notes I gave him."
"The student and I worked on two proportion models, specifically taking the difference between two proportions to find useful information about the relationship between the two variables. These are more complex models than we have talked about in the past. We worked through a few practice problems and wrote down a page of notes to use as a guide. This is one of those topics that will take some time to fully master, but I think he is moving in the right direction. We will work on it more next session."
"The student and I worked on two-digit multiplication for most of the session, and she did very well. She is better with multiplying than addition. We ended with grammar by correcting sentences and identifying parts of speech."
"The student and I worked on two-step equations and order operations. She did very well with both concepts. She continues to display that concepts covered in class and tutoring sessions are resonating. She currently has a 90 percent average for this grading interval. She was very engaged in the lesson. She was simplifying expressions utilizing order of operations and solving two-step equations like an expert mathematician. She was very enthusiastic during the session. It was a very productive session."
