Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we worked on finding the least common multiple of 2 numbers; rewriting a decimal as an improper fraction; simplifying ratios; finding the greatest common factor; and using ratios, fractions, and linear equations to solve word problems."
"Today, we worked on multiplication. We focused on three digit multiplied by two digit numbers. The student was struggling at first, but then she started feeling more confident and actually focusing on it. I told her to take it one number at a time and explained why we add a zero when dealing with more than one digit on the bottom."
"Today's focus was on fractions. We started with a comparing fractions game. Then, we did a multiplication of fractions game. The student did well with this. We ended by doing some fraction word problems with addition and subtraction. The word problems were challenging for her. She needs to continue to work on understanding the parts and whole of the fractions."
"Today's session mainly covered the student's upcoming math test and practice converting fractions to decimals and vice versa. We also worked on the relationship between integers, whole numbers, rational numbers, and irrational numbers. He worked very hard, and I was impressed by his ability to grind out the answers on particularly tricky problems. One thing that will help him moving forward is memorizing certain basic conversions, like 1/3=0.33333 or 1/8=0.125, so that he can use them to analyze the bigger challenges at hand."
"Tonight we worked on long division with remainders with Student A, and corrected his spelling. He learned the letters k and l in cursive. He did well with the long division, and we talked mostly about the meaning of the remainders and how to show them in fractional form. Student B and I looked at her telling time homework, which she passed, and focused on two- and three-digit multiplication. She did well at this task, but I want her to continue practicing so that she can become more fluent. She also learned the cursive letters. We worked on addition fluency, and she continued to raise her fluency scores."
"Topics for today were: operations with polynomials, graphing linear equations, writing linear equations when given the graph, and determining the slope of a line when given 2 points. The student has some homework to complete before the next session. He always has a positive attitude."
