Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I started today's session with a quick review of the probability and statistics & data analysis topics that we covered last week. We then moved on to sets and Venn diagrams. He knew what Venn diagrams were but had never seen them used in math, so we began with a review of the basic terms (set, element, union, intersection) and notations. He then worked through several practice questions on these topics. We finished our session by continuing to work through a practice exam that he had started in prior sessions. He did very well on the quantitative reasoning section questions that we covered; he seems comfortable with the format of these questions. As always, he was friendly, attentive, and positive throughout our session."
"The student and I started with geometry: conjectures, truth tables, conditional statements. We also finished with biology - organic compounds and their functions. "
"The student and I talked about postulates and proofs. She seems to have done a good job memorizing and understanding the postulates. I gave her some recommendations about the theorems and definitions that she should probably spend a bit of time studying - congruence and midpoint, mostly - but I mostly just tried to be encouraging. "
"The student and I talked about solving for the length of line segments and angles, using the relationships of complementary angles, linear pairs and vertical angles, and that a point has a complete angle of 360 degrees around it."
"The student and I went over a few geometry concepts. We used an online test prep program as a platform to complete questions regarding midpoint formula, distance formula, finding angles using vertical angles, supplementary angles, sum of the angles of a triangle, and alternate interior angles. By the end of the session, I felt like she really mastered these concepts."
"The student and I went over Chapter 2.5 and covered the equality properties: addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, and distributive properties. We then started work on her homework which was being able to solve algebraic equations and justifying each step. It is imperative that she makes sure she knows all of the postulates from chapter 1 and 2 regarding angles and line segments- which she did. We worked through one problem, which is very involved, and she remembered the postulates well. She informed me she got an A on her last quiz, and I have no doubt that she will continue to do well. This was my last session with her, and I am honored to have been able to work with such and intelligent, respectful, and nice young lady!"
