Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This session we went through the first few pages of the summer Latin packet and reviewed all grammar concepts that the packet touched on. Specifically, we focused on verb conjugations, verb stems, how to conjugate a verb, and the present and imperfect tense. He was generally struggling to remember the grammatical concepts he learned last year. However, he seemed to quickly remember them as we reviewed his packet."
"The student and I met for the first time tonight and talked about what proves difficult for him in Latin. We worked through translation, reviewing sentences from the past few chapters. We went over next week's material on participles as well, so he would be more prepared."
"The student and I began our session by making flashcards in preparation for his quiz the next day. We sorted the flashcards by parts of speech and then talked about each word. We discussed derivates of each word and other mnemonic devices to remember what each word means. I also tried to draw parallels between the words as well (for example between superbia and superbus). After finishing the flashcards, we reviewed personal pronouns (which were also in his vocabulary chart). The student has trouble understanding Latin and language concepts, so we worked on person and number of verbs. He improved greatly while we were working. Finally, we worked on translating pronouns and verbs in the correct person and number. Next week, I plan to continue our backlog of information by looking at cases and their translations."
