Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Continued working with differentiation. Worked problems involving chain rule within product rule (including implicit differentiation) and logarithmic differentiation."
"The student had a set of practice problems from the professor that we started working on. These included the topics of discontinuity, limits, derivatives, and average velocity vs. instantaneous velocity. From there, he knew he needed some more practice with the chain rule and trig functions. We worked on these problems from the online portion of the course and took turns picking out different problems. At the end, he said he was going to work on reviewing general trig concepts to refresh his memory. He was very well prepared for the session and had great questions."
"Topics included: chain rule, product rule, finding extrema on a graph, and application (usually maximizing area for a fixed perimeter)."
"The student and I went over integration for his make-up test. We went over some of the basic integration methods such as u-substitution, which he had some misconception about. After our session, he understood how to get the integrals from graphs, how to apply the u-substitution technique, and had a better understanding of integration overall."
"We covered the product rule and quotient rule for finding derivatives of functions, reviewed exponent rules that the student said he has seen a bit before, and began to cover the chain rule and u substitution for finding derivatives. We also reviewed the definition of the derivative and found the equation of the tangent line to a curve. This is all very new to him, so he should make sure to review it all before Sunday and come to me with any questions he may have."
"The student and I spent the session working on L'Hopital's rule. We focused on working a variety of problems. We solved problems relating to the primary form of L'Hopital's rule as well as several of the variant indeterminate forms. Overall, the topic was not terribly challenging for him, but he needed a bit more practice with them in order to reduce the time used to solve them. He will work on that before our next session as I left him with practice materials."
