"The student was working on conservation of momentum problems (with some other topics added in and a little bit about impulse). He was very quick to pick up ideas and correct mistakes, so I think he will be fine with this material overall."
"We went over the practice final and made sure he understood each concept, especially vapor pressure lowering/boiling points, and went over past quizzes. The student was very well prepared."
"The student is doing very well in all of her subjects. Today we worked on study skills for her science class. The procedure will be: read the questions; read the text and highlight important information, underline unknown words, and summarize each paragraph in the margins; answer the reading questions; summarize whole document; and, create flashcards for new vocab. Our task is going to be more one of enrichment rather than assistance."
"We covered mitosis and meiosis. She was struggling with the terminology, which is pretty tricky. Specifically, chromosome pair, chromosome, and chromatid. She was really positive and is definitely prepared to put in the work. We talked about a few strategies like pair means multiply by 2. I didn't provide her with any practice and there was a quiz grade. I think she feels much more comfortable with the terminology as well as mitosis and meiosis."
"We covered nerve cells and behavior, basic neurobiology, and electronics for a neurobiologist. The student found it intimidating at first, but she later could understand the connection between the concepts."
"We covered neutralization reactions and ion exchange reactions, but mostly used them as a proxy to discuss step-by-step problem solving strategies in chemistry. We moved on briefly to thermochemistry, discussing the formula for kinetic energy, and that energy in total consists of heat and work. We will continue with thermochemistry next time."
