Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In today's session, we started the chapter on trigonometry. The student and I covered the sections on sin, cos, tan, angle measure, solving right triangles, and arc length. He had seen some of this material in his geometry class, so he did well in the 6 basic trig-function section. We spent more time reviewing angle measure, and converting between radians and degrees. He and I also went over the special triangles, 30-60-90 and 45-45-90, which help determine values of trig functions. We finished the session with co-terminal angles, with the student completing a unit circle, with both degrees and radian measures. He did well with the material today, and feels confident about this chapter so far."
"This session we specifically focused on a little bit of review of algebra, since it has been more than a year since the student has done anything algebra related. We went over complex and radical numbers and specifically how to rationalize radical numbers. We also went over the basics of trig and we also went over the unit circle. I also introduced the concept of radians to him and how to convert between the radians and degrees. He seemed very excited and motivated to learn to the best of his ability. He told me that his goal was to excel in his honors algebra trig class that he plans to take this fall, if he continues sessions and has the same passion and motivation, he should have no problem reaching his goal."
"This was the second to last session that we did, and we went over Chapter 7 (trigonometric functions and inverse trigonometric functions) and Chapter 8 (trigonometric identities, reciprocal identities, Pythagorean identities, even-odd identities, power reducing identities, sum and difference identities, and coterminal identities)."
"Today I worked through fitting the data using a research program I have used in the past. From this, we noticed that after inputting all of the student's parameters from his original paper, there is still some discrepancy between the original data and the fit. We agreed to think on this for a while and will reassess soon."
"Today the student and I completed a comprehensive final exam review for her trigonometry course. After the session, she is more confident in solving various problems with little to no assistance from me. I am confident she will perform very well on her final."
"Today we began discussing Chapter 3 and completed the homework for the first 3 sections. This included covering topics such as instantaneous rate of change and the limit definition of the instantaneous rate of change. We also discussed the relationship between position, velocity, and acceleration."
