How can a Statistics tutor help you?

Bar graphs, pie charts, and the bell-shaped curve -- You've probably seen these before, but what do they really mean? Such tools are useful for data analysis and describing various aspects of populations. The process of collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data is a science that applies to many areas. Mathematical principles are included, especially when you have to determine spread, ratio, or range; this is something your tutor may help clarify if they are points of confusion. To get past any hurdles in understanding the subject, find an expert statistics tutor in Cincinnati, OH, today by contacting Varsity Tutors' educational directors.

Your tutor's understanding of the subject and ability to teach on an individual level may help shore up any weaknesses. With one-on-one instruction, you may spend as much time as needed on a topic. Your tutor may assess problem areas and personalize each lesson accordingly. They may move past the things you know more quickly, potentially saving time, while setting aside lessons for material that helps build upon more unfamiliar topics. In the end, your tutor may be a real confidence-builder too. Applying your newfound knowledge may also help improve your chances of success in class and on any statistics exam.

The student and I began by working through some problems on Chapter 12.2 - transforming sets of data for linear regression. We then worked on reviewing Chapter 8 for his quiz and test retakes this week, on confidence intervals for proportions and means. We worked through a few problems on calculating margin of error and using the four-step process to calculate and interpret a confidence interval.

The student's last test of the trimester is rapidly approaching, so we worked through a comprehensive multiple-choice review of the entire course. I was pleased to see that the student remembered almost all of the concepts covered in the questions we got through, even despite it being very late, needing relatively little prompting compared to many past cumulative assessments.

We did several problems with PDFs and integration. The problems we addressed were unusual and couldn't be solved by brute force so we had to use some clever techniques. Mainly to reduce the problem to one that has an easily integral or a value we can look up in a table. I don't know if this'll be on the exam but at least they were challenging.

The student and I went over normal distributions. I explained to him the standard normal and why it is used and how it is applied. We also worked sample problems. I taught him how to use distribution charts to solve probability problems. In our next session we will go over the distributions that we've worked on and, as a review work on additional problems.

Today the student and I worked on her homework again, but really delved into what linear regression is; why we use it, and why polynomial regressions can yield more accurate estimations. We also touched on confidence intervals of a linear or polynomial estimation, and how to assess the CI to some confidence level in excel.

The student and I worked through most of a multiple choice sample test for the AP Statistics exam. She was quite confident on many of the problems, although on a few she needed some reminders or help analyzing which technique to use. Overall I'm optimistic. She will be practicing more on her own and we'll meet again Wednesday, before Friday's AP test.
