We first went through some re-coverage of strategies and tactics, including active reading tactics, notation practices, and various approaches to different question types. We then went through an arguments section from a practice test, where neither of us knew the answers. He scored very well on the test, and I believe that walking through the process with the student again has helped solidify the skills he must practice in order to get those extra few points he needs.

This was my first session with the student. We started off by going over how she is doing so far on her practice tests, what she feels she needs to improve on and how she approaches the test. She had told me prior to our session that she wanted to work primarily on logic games to start, as that seems to be her toughest section. I was prepared with a lesson plan on logic games based off of the book that we both have. We went through diagramming linear games - not-laws, blocks, sequentially, conditionals, restrictions etc. We talked about how to recognize these and how to diagram them in a practical way. I stressed to her that she should just absorb all of the information and then decide for herself what works best between what I teach her and what she works on in her class. We finished the lesson by doing some practice diagramming drills in the book which she did very well on.

The student completed a reading comprehension section and an arguments section. We worked through answers on the arguments and one passage from the reading comprehension. We have identified a couple of areas to continue working on: 1) paying attention to precise wording of answer choices, 2) carefully reading passages before reaching answer choices, and 3) using process of elimination to find a correct answer even when no answer seems plausible.

The student and I mostly covered logic games. She has a good grasp on many of the concepts, but needs to learn how to apply them. She is very excited to get better and reach the right answer after a little prompting. Simplifying the test and slowing down to fully digest all of the information will be key to her success. We can definitely achieve this by replacing some of the more convoluted concepts she has learned with a uniform set of methods to go into each question with. I assigned her a full practice test to do before our next session.
