"Student 1: Student 1 finished all her homework and also did some reading practice! She first had a math sheet on 2D and 3D shapes, connecting which shapes or faces she knew to the 3D shapes on the page. She did a great job with this, and did not need much help. We then did 3 vocab activities with her vocab words: writing the words on graph paper, one letter per box, writing the words and circling every vowel, and spelling the words out loud while doing jumping jacks for each letter. She did a fabulous job with all of these. We did the jumping jacks first and she had to spend more time thinking about how to spell the words without looking at the sheet, which was a first for her. However, she did a great job sounding out the words in her head. She did the other two exercises with no problem, and showed some excellent handwriting in the process. She was even able to group the words by their beginning letter for one of the exercises without my help. Last, she read aloud a book to me. Student 2: Student 2 and I worked from his vocabulary workbook- starting a new set of words, and studied for his geography test on location and capitals for the southwestern states. He did a very nice job with the vocabulary workbook, and was able to discern the meaning of most of the words from their context in the sentence fragments without having to look back at the definitions. He is doing great with memorizing the capitals, but initially struggled a bit to remember where each state was. He succeeded in filling in the blank map perfectly by the end of the session."
"Went through a writing checklist for final copywriting. Emphasized neatness, elaboration, adjectives, and neat handwriting on final copy. Session went extremely well."
"Continued formation of extended definition paper. - Attention getter - Thesis statement - Body paragraphs - Conclusion"
"Today we worked on science instead of reading because the student is getting prepared for her science state assessment exam. We worked on vocabulary terms, compared and contrasted complete metamorphosis vs incomplete metamorphosis, and the life cycle of different kinds of insects."
"The student was very eager to learn today. He showed great improvement. We covered 100 sight words of which he was very comfortable with half of them. Another 25 he showed mild competency. The last 25 he struggled with, and these are the words that we are going to work on."
"Today the student worked on Language Arts. She needed to read a nonfiction article on football and concussions and answer questions on it. She also had to read part of a book for the class. She did not have any other homework, so she checked out a new book from the library and we read some of that."
