"The student had done rational numbers and most of polynomials on his own. He is fine on rational numbers and we went over the "Babylonian method" to figure a square root together. Today he was adding, multiplying and dividing polynomials and he did well because he is good at combining like terms."
"Topics covered: Systems of equations solved via elimination and substitution, word problems, solving for unknowns, inequalities, graphing inequalities Had to do a quick review of how to graph equations using the slope and intercept. She is able to identify the form of equations as either slope-intercept or standard form. She needed a bit of review on graphing inequalities but after telling her to graph as if it was an equal sign and then modify it before connecting the dots she was able to understand how to graph them. Her ability to understand the limitations and applications of real world problems is improving (i.e. understanding what quadrants of a graph are not applicable)"
"Today the student and I went over the factoring sheet from class. We only did the right side, which was her homework, and it went pretty well! I think she solidified the process in her head as well too! I made sure to impress upon her the importance of checking her work."
"I taught the student completing the square (getting her a little ahead of the class). We started basic and worked up to the challenging problems. She had no struggles with the material. She has become much better at writing down every step in her calculations, even if it takes longer. She made a 90% on her last unit test!"
"Since the student has done well with all of the topics we've covered so far, we went through the multiple choice section of the Algebra I standardized test. This served to better help pinpoint exactly which topics he needs review on. He did well overall; the only topics that seemed to be foreign to him were exponents, coordinate transformations, and some applications of quadratics. Starting tomorrow, we'll hone in on those topics in particular."
"We prepared for the student's algebra quiz this Friday. We worked a lot on slope-intercept form, which was the majority of what was on the quiz. We worked on some worksheet problems that her teacher gave in class."
