Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The first part of our session was a grammar and a vocabulary review in anticipation of that. He did very well on the review and I anticipate that he'll do well on the quiz. On a related note, he had some corrections to make to some earlier worksheets in order to get full credit for them; he completed those while I supervised. In honor of the Ides of March, he had a reading to do about Julius Caesar, which I read with him."
"We spent most of the session discussing the translation and noun/adjective pair identification for the student's homework."
"We covered the nature of the test we are studying for and prepared a basic curriculum. I provided a basic paradigm for the student to study until the next session. The student was enthusiastic and well prepared."
"As usual, we went over the student's assignments for tomorrow and the next day. Focus shifts now to the imperative mood, the vocative case, and infinitives (formation and uses). The latter can be slightly tricky, and I hope that he will take good notes in class as necessary. We reviewed for his vocabulary quiz tomorrow."
"In our first session, we focused on the passive periphrastic construction. Seeing as this is one of the more complicated grammatical constructions in Latin, the student showed noticeable improvement in his understanding of the concept. I look forward to seeing his progress next week."
"In this session, we finished translating out review sentences from Chapters 1 to 4; in so doing, we went over indirect commands, purpose clauses, and ablatives of manner, of agent, and of means. We also discussed and applied translation strategies (identifying verbs, identifying the main verb, and using the verb to find the subject). We then began working on participles in Chapter 5. I asked the student to read all of Chapter 5 for next week. He seems much better prepared for his exam."
