Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student and I continued working on the hangman game we started last week, the game is nearly finished and though it was a little complicated to build, he seems to be enjoying himself and understanding where we're coding with the code and the more technical issues that arise during the coding process."
"The student and I continued working on the final Algorithms project. We sorted out some issues with the implementation of Prim's algorithm and I explained how to compute distance."
"Today I had the student go through make a website tutorial. He picked up the concepts quickly and seemed very interested in the material."
"We continued our exploration into the world of pointers and their many uses. He had a great start with his project and getting the logical flow of data, but he was having a hard time with variable scope. This is where pointers come in handy. It doesn't matter if you pass a pointer by reference or value when it comes to access the data at that point. This allows us to move blocks of data between functions without fear of loss. Utilizing this concept, we were able to bring consistency to the rest of his project."
"Today, I reviewed linked lists in general (by way of lecture), as he was having some difficulties with this still. By the end of our time together, he seemed to be much more solid on the steps needed for implementing basic traversal of these data structures. Clearly, he has some difficulties visualizing it; however, it seems that he now has a much better grasp, given that we worked through the content in lecture form first. We worked on the copy constructor, as well as methods for integrating and differentiating a polynomial function."
"We went over the student's homework, a craps simulation game. Afterwards, we worked on his coding warm-up questions, finishing question one. We also worked with while-loops and Booleans today. Tomorrow, we will work on methods and parameters."
