Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we started off with a quick review of some multiplication facts that the student needed to make as fluent as her other facts. She was very successful with this, and she loves to start off the session this way! We completed a prefix activity to continue to work on that topic. We also spent some time learning how to reduce fractions using the GCF, which she understood quite quickly. We also selected several books so that we can do a book club together and work on English skills in the context of a novel. She completed her hw of writing an opinion essay."
"We went over her homework again. She was having some trouble with some of the fraction to decimal conversions, but understood it quickly after I explained it to her. We then practiced one last time for her presentation and took a video so she could see how she's doing."
"We went over the student's math from school, which was long multiplication. She did it with few problems, I only corrected a few minor errors. Then we worked on her reading response. She has trouble with starting sentences. She responded well to doing brainstorming (we made a list of character traits of Harry Potter vs. Lord Voldemort) as a way to kick start her ideas, because once she has the idea of what to write her sentence structure is pretty good, although her sentences tend to get a little long. We also talked about how each sentence should be related to the question you are answering in some way. We had a little time left after that so I reviewed with her again simplifying fractions and also cross-simplifying before multiplying. She did catch on but this is a concept I think I need to review a little each week before she'll feel really confident with it."
"In this session, the student and I worked on his math homework which did not take long. His mom also requested that I help him learn to type more efficiently so we also worked on that. I also checked behind him on Google Classrooms for any work that he may have not written in his agenda and from what I could tell, there didn't appear to be any missing assignments. Overall the student did well in our time together though he was reluctant to practice typing correctly."
"In today's session with the student, we worked primarily on Spanish, and reviewed basic grammatical rules that will help him progress in this new language. We also reviewed his next assignment in Algebra (linear equations). In the session with student two, we reviewed 16 new vocabulary words that he will be tested on tomorrow. Both students were very receptive to the tutoring."
"In today's session, the student worked on his new list of 5 spelling words and did great - getting all correct on 2 practice tests during the session. He reviewed exponents with a guided lesson. He also worked on some PEMDAS problems and one digit subtraction. He said some of the X was too difficult in the PEMDAS, but we worked out a couple of problems. He understands the correct order of operations. I made sure he had his homework folder done correctly, and he said he only had a reading worksheet - graphic organizer- to complete on a book he read. We will continue to work on spelling words and math this week and any homework he has. He was also excited to tell and show me the 4 teeth he lost this weekend. :-)"
