"The student and I worked on finalizing his video game essay. I then assigned him to write an informational paper about the Sixth Crusade."
"The student and I went over her legal research and writing assignment, worked on the CRAC format, and went through blue-booking."
"Student A and I worked mainly on math today, as he has a test coming up on Thursday . The topics are time, temperature, and word problems. He was struggling with finding elapsed time, particularly with looking at hours before minutes. We practiced lots more of these problems, and I explained to him the importance of thinking about hours before minutes. He did an excellent job with the temperature problems, and was feeling pretty confident about the word problems. We did a few extra examples in addition to his homework, which helped him feel more prepared. We also worked on his vocabulary, on which he did an excellent job without much help from me! Student B and I worked on her spelling this week, and picked 2 activities to do-writing the words in different colors and with different utensils, and using the hangman activity to quiz herself. She very much enjoys hangman and we did this together, taking turns to be the one who guessed the word. She did an excellent job writing out the words-her handwriting is looking really solid."
"This morning, the student and I finished "Soul by Soul" and read two assigned readings for next week. We are still working about a week ahead. In week six, he has his first mid-term. We discussed today ideas for studying for that exam. He emailed his professor to find out if the test is multiple choice, essay, or both. Once we know the format, we can begin to start studying for the midterm appropriately."
"This session covered math and reading. We worked through 22 math problems derived from The students' homework assignments. Both children seemed to have grasped the fundamental concepts and process as demonstrated by their ability to comprehend word problems and correctly evaluate. We also worked through vocabulary problems as well as grammar in the form of sentence decomposition."
"This session he and I reviewed close reading focusing primarily on finding the gist of each paragraph as we read. We then moved on to looking at the concept of Main Idea and supporting details. He grasped this concept easily and even recognized the graphic organizer as a tool he has used before. He has been assigned a passage for next week focusing on the Main Idea and supporting details concept. Going forward at our next session, we will focus on summarizing informational texts."
