Chesapeake, VA Physiology tutoring
Today we worked on the student's geometry worksheet and finished her project that is due Friday. It was on reflections, rotations, and translation. She then worked on her chemistry assignment. She did really well with this. It was similar problems to what she was struggling with on Saturday. She was able to do most of the problems without any help. Much improved. We then went through the chapter and went over all the concepts and added things to her cheat sheet. She even said she felt really good about this test. She also has a project due first thing Thursday morning. It is worth a good amount of points. It appears most of the class had forgotten about it and the due date was pushed back. We went over each section of the project and what she needed to do to get a good score on the project. She will be emailing it to me so that I can proofread it before she turns it in.

Today we went over some of the student's study guides in preparation for an exam on Thursday. We spent the most time on chapter 7, where she said she was having the most problems. We will be meeting again on Wednesday before her test to make sure she understands all the topics. We also went over 2 problems from her geometry homework. Overall, she did a good job, and I hope to make progress with her over the few next sessions.

We covered Mendelian inheritance, genotype frequencies, and dominant/recessive traits. The student had a good attitude. I included a couple of strategies for attacking the problems.

We covered chemical conversions, the atomic theory, and bond types. We also went through how to increase our speed on exams and multiple choice problems. She has a great amount of ability and we just focused on how to break down problems to make sure we aren't getting mixed up. She is going to work through her past concepts and come to me with any problems that her class has already passed and then also come to me with current problems she is having with new material. The student is definitely capable of acing General Chemistry I!

Tonight, the student and I covered elemental symbols and ion states. We started with the elemental symbol, listing protons, isotope and formal charge to deduce the number of protons, neutrons and electrons. Then, we reviewed ions from last time. I made up a sheet with ions and their names and their compound molecule with formal charge, which I sent a copy to the student to help her with them. Also, we again reviewed the common formal charges of each column (group) of elements on the periodic temple. Her test is this Friday, and for the material that we covered, I think with study she will do great.

Today was the final session with the student before she started her test. She was still able to complete every problem. Her knowledge of theory is impressive; she is able to answer most multiple choice questions without difficulty. Her technical knowledge in doing the arithmetic for problems/having an easy knowledge of what problems are asking is similarly impressive. She is well prepared for the exam. Today we went over her final practice test and discussed issues she'd been having with mixture problems and other similarly complicated problems. All she is lacking is confidence; after sitting in front of a problem for a decent amount of time, without me intervening, she always finds her way to the right answer.
