The student took a test and wanted to go over each problem she got wrong. We went over all of them and then had a little time left at the end to cover a new topic they are working now.

The student and I continued with a comprehensive look at everything he covered during his sixth grade year of Math in preparation for his final exam. I believe he is ready for the exam, as he knows how to do all of the work. His biggest problem is writing too small on his scratch paper, making it difficult for him to read his own work (leading to mistakes) or rushing through the work, which also leads to mistakes. He needs to be mindful of his problems, so that while taking his exam and doing any Math work in the future, he can actively make sure to take his time and write his numbers neatly and legibly.

Tutoring review by Sanjay in New Palestine, IN
We went over how to multiply binomials and how to factor quadratic equations. I gave the student 2 handouts on these topics and we practiced on multiple algebra problems. The teacher has not started the geometry section yet and is still teaching algebra. We made a plan to go over more algebra topics as the class gives her in our next tutor session. She gained considerable skill in solving equations and really improved on the natural mistakes most students make in algebra.

Tutoring review by S.C. in New Palestine, IN
We spent time practicing reading strategies on Natural Science passages, going over how the student is going to approach them (question first, then look for the pertinent part of the passage; look for keywords to guide the eyes; eliminate easy answers first). He had trouble on several questions where the words in the passage didn't exactly mirror the words in the answer, so we talked about scanning for keywords from the questions but being open to synonyms in the answers. His last prep session is this coming Sunday, so we'll meet again on Wednesday to work on Social Sciences and Prose Literature passages, which we haven't yet done, as well as to talk about the results of the practice test he's taking this weekend.

Tutoring review by Rebecca in New Palestine, IN
For today's lesson, I helped the student work on practice problems as review for her test on Monday. I noticed that she made several mistakes due to putting the wrong signs and suggested a study method that would help her work on her problem. I suggested she solve all the problems from her worksheets, erase a problem if she noticed a mistake and start again, and then check her work after solving the problem.
