Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I split the time today between math and science. We reviewed her math homework regarding simplifying polynomials. She initially was having a hard time understanding why you can't add/subtract numbers raised to different exponents but going through the worksheet together helped solidify the concept. Next we went over heredity/genetics. The student has a habit of just memorizing definitions and not actually understanding the concepts behind them, so we spent a lot of time going over the different concepts and making sure she could explain them to me in her own words."
"In this session we went over the kinematics concepts of motion and force again. The student is retaking the exam that he failed on Thursday, so we focused on making sure that he knows the material. I feel like he knows everything really well now and just needs to stay calm and concentrate when he is taking the test. I to the session a couple of worksheets with the main concepts that he was covering and some problems and we worked through those together. I helped him make flashcards to help him study and I will also be sending his mother some more practice problems so he can practice tonight and tomorrow."
"The student has a quiz on Wednesday that will cover the Nitrogen cycle, Carbon cycle, and Phosphorus cycle. We covered how these three cycles interact with each other, the form Nitrogen is in during specific parts of the cycle, and each cycle in detail. I did not see any specific grades but he said the lab report went well and he feels comfortable in the class. The student did not seem to be struggling with anything in particular and his focus seemed to be better than last week. The student informed me that he is planning on taking the SAT Biology E test in May or June so I suggested that he do a couple practice questions each day."
"We continued going over the student's review. She understood most of everything, but we had to go over moment of rotational inertia from scratch. She did well though, and I know she will do well on her test because she understood most of what we went over."
"We continued our study of rotational motion. The student is now doing very well with conservation problems! In general, our main objective will continue to be selecting the right equation for a given situation. Also, he got an A on his last chem exam!! That will be very helpful as we move toward the final."
"We continued our work with thermo topics, including ideal gas law and heat capacity. The student has a good grasp of heat capacity and heat of fusion/vaporization. Extra practice is to study and complete the rest of the homework."
