Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed equations for straight lines. The student worked problem after problem determining the equation for a straight line given two points on that line until he was very comfortable finding the equation, showing every step in the process, and checking his answers. He then practiced finding points on a line given the equation for that line. I told him I would send him some additional problems so that he could practice some more. His progress in tonight's session was significant."
"We reviewed finding intercepts and slope and how to solve for 2-variable equations. The student improved with his understanding of order of operations. He was solving problems easier. He's still struggling some with solving for x. He remains positive and did improve on his last test. I instructed the student to continue solving practice problems on the math website."
"We reviewed for a test on inequalities, solved inequalities, and graphed them. We wrote inequalities from word problems which used words like "at least," "at most," and "no more then." We then graphed linear inequalities on a Cartesian graph and determined if a specific point on the Cartesian graph would be included in the linear inequality. The student worked through all the problems and understands what he is doing."
"We reviewed for a test the student has tomorrow. We covered systems of equations, deriving a system of equations from word problems, and graphing systems of inequalities. She has a good understanding of the concepts, and if today was any indication, she'll do well on her test tomorrow."
"We reviewed for an upcoming math exam. Material included properties of logarithms, polynomials, inverses of graphs, and sequences/series. The student had the most difficulty dealing with logarithms since he was still practicing how to convert from exponential to logarithmic (and vice versa). We practiced the basic applications of logarithms, and once he felt comfortable, we worked through some examples. Once he had a mastery of the basics, we reviewed laws of logarithms and how they related to the laws of exponents. We practiced with some more problems until he felt comfortable with the topic. We spent the rest of the session going over his study guide problems."
"We reviewed for her upcoming test, focusing on solving equations. She is making steady progress in this area, but still lacks confidence. We revisited strategies to reduce test anxiety. Even though she sometimes gets discouraged, she is determined to accomplish her goals."
