Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, I assisted the student with a timed assignment and a problem set covering the topics of areas bounded by curves, areas bounded by curves and lines, left-hand and right-hand Riemann sums, Riemann sums calculated using the midpoint rule, and Riemann sums calculated using the trapezoidal rule. The student scored 8/10 on the timed homework assignment, and we managed to work through most of the problem set together. I will scan and email the rest of the problem set's solutions later today. Next time, we will likely work together to help prepare him for the final exam."
"Today, the student and I worked on derivatives and integrals of logarithmic and exponential functions. We went over how to compute derivatives of logarithmic and exponential functions with arbitrary bases. We went over how to compute integrals of exponential functions with arbitrary bases, as well. We worked through several examples of each type. We also did some applications, including examples related to differential equations, charge and current, buying power, and rate of growth. We will meet again tomorrow."
"Today, the student and I worked on Hessian matrices, rules for definite positiveness and definite negativeness, and the chain rule. She needed help with chain rule usage, so we went over that in detail. She had a positive attitude toward the material reviewed. I included strategies on the use of algebraic expressions while doing derivations to ease in the burden of writing. She did well."
"Today, the student and I worked on linear approximation, second derivative tests, limits, and Newton's methods. She had an excellent attitude."
"Today, the student and I worked on linearization, differentials, and related rates. His first set of homework problems was based on estimating and linearization. We went over the formulas for these computations, and he had no problem solving these types of exercises. We then went through using differentiation to solve related rate problems. We focused on understanding the proper setup of the problem based on fixed values vs variables changing at specified rates. He did well with the problems we got through today. We plan on doing more work with related rates word problems and related exercises next session, to give him a lot of practice with this topic."
"Today, the student and I worked on more problems to help her prepare for her exam. We worked on many problems involving the area and circumference of circles, areas of triangles, and used the Pythagorean theorem quite a bit."
