Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, we started a review for the student's first exam, by solving review problems assigned by his professor. He was able to solve most of the first two problems we looked at, but he was unsure about completing the squares, so we spent time practicing completing the squares, and we will continue to review for his exam in our next session."
"The student had questions prepared and knew what she wanted to go over during today's session. She is going through her study guide to answer the questions her professor wants her to know. We discussed not only being able to write down the material but being able to verbalize it without looking at anything to ensure she is learning and retaining the information."
"Today, we added the "Ha" row and spent time going over the sound change variants "Ba" and "Pa" rows, and then reviewed all the hiragana to date. We also added the small "tsu" character, which makes a double consonant sound. We started working on colors."
"During this session, I tried to make the student speak at first to see his level. He understood everything when I was speaking; he just need to practice speaking to remember grammar. We reviewed all the past tenses, and I explained to him how you construct it and when to use it."
"I am trying to incorporate more motivational techniques and rewards for the student's attention and participation in the lesson. The most important thing I am stressing now is for her to fail, make guesses, or say "I don't know" during our vocab lessons. It is more important that she try and fail than it is for her to get the vocab correct right now. She will learn it over time."
"We worked with the student's summer reading book. She completed the sheet we started last week reviewing cause and effect. We then began a writing assignment using the topic, what if there was no electricity?"
