Session Summaries by Trigonometry Tutors

Chandler, AZ Trigonometry tutoring
Today's session with the student went well. We moved ahead in trigonometry and starting working on reference angles, all six trig functions, and inverse trig values. No scores or grades for this session. He is starting to work more on the homework that I give him and it is starting to show. He is picking up the material fairly quickly. He is not struggling with anything at this time. I left him with practice problems from two of the section. No concerns from this session, and I am happy to see that he is becoming more interested in the topic.

The student has shown good progress in computing angles in both degrees and radians, and representing angles in standard position. This week, we moved onto calculating trig functions of any angle using the unit circle. He was a little unfamiliar with right triangle trigonometry, so we had to review some of those fundamentals. He worked through a few examples of angles on the unit circle, and I left him with some practice problems to complete.

Today I drilled the student on triangle problems. I gave him three word problems, plus a test prep practice question. I also drilled him on properly filling in the formulas for triangle problems. He seems much more comfortable with these problems, and I will probably give him at least one more problem like this tomorrow. Tomorrow we will also go over standard deviation and probability as well as a few other topics.

The student brought her exam from last week, as well as a pop quiz she took earlier this week. She did well on the exam as she scored 87/100. The exam covered everything from the beginning of the school year to last week, and it seemed that the review we did helped her a lot. The pop quiz was on quadratic inequalities and she was struggling with the concept. She was able to do first half of the problems (factoring) but not solving the inequalities. We went over all the problems she got wrong on the pop quiz and exam. She caught on to her mistakes and understood what she did wrong.
