How can a Science tutor help you?

Science allows us to see how our world works. It includes the study of plants, animals, and weather, and gives us the chance to gain a deeper understanding of our world. However, you may have noticed your child struggling to understand concepts like "What is matter?" or "How does the study of evolution explain modern man?" If this is the case, know that your child can get the assistance they need. They no longer have to struggle to keep up with their science class. The educational directors at Varsity Tutors could help you and your child connect with science tutors in Chandler, AZ.

Your child's tutor can go over material in a step-by-step way that your child understands. Together, your child and their tutor can cover only certain topics that they may find difficult, or review everything taught in the science course your child is taking, from biology and botany to weather and ecology. We can find your child a talented science tutor in Chandler who can work with students at all proficiency levels. The tutor can set up lessons to include activities such as experiments, mock tests, and guidance on how to craft a research paper. Your child's tutor is able to work with their unique learning style, and will take as much time as your child needs to absorb the material they are learning before moving on. Tutors are patient and understanding, having once been students themselves, and they have real-world experience in the ways science is used in daily life. Your child can also have the science concepts that are covered on the AIMS (Arizona's Instrument to Measure Standards) reviewed, if desired.

Chandler, AZ Science tutoring
The student's professor hadn't given her any additional homework, so I went through her textbook and picked out a variety of things to work on. Through two sections in particular we went through most of the odd problems so she could do the even problems (answers provided in the book) herself.

During our first session, the student and I reviewed the material that he had missed in Chemistry class while he was out of school for a few weeks. The student's school uses textbooks and notes, so most of the session was spent making sense of the materials that he had and figuring out how to work with them. The student is still unsure what work his Chemistry teacher actually wants him to turn in, so we started by just going through the three chapters and highlighting the topics that the student already had some grasp of, and the topics that he had not learned at all. It turned out that the student was comfortable with more of the material than he previously thought he was, so that was a great way to boost confidence. This week, the student will be meeting with his Chemistry teacher to get a better idea of what he needs to turn in, I will hopefully make contact with the teacher as well, and we will meet again to start working through the material so that the student is eventually confident with all of it.

Today the student and I delved into the topic of supernovae and hypernovae. These subjects were of particular interest to the student so he was engaged with our conversation. I brought in several articles from NASA and other news sources for background information. Then I had the student read an article from a popular news source followed by a critique of the article. I used this comparison to illustrate to the student that it is important to look for primary resources and to read critically when learning new things in science. With the internet being an open forum, it is easy to find faux science articles that aren't 100% accurate. I think the student enjoyed this discussion and was interested to see primary source studies on hypernovae so we will discuss those next week.
