I also continued to encourage him to break problems down into manageable parts, and discussed how to find which formula to use when he is unsure."
"Today's session was spent preparing the student for her exam on Wednesday. We spent the majority of the session working on the different properties of waves. We looked at amplitude, period, frequency, wavelength, and speed. We did a practice question provided by her teacher that tested the relationship of each of these variables to the other."
"The student received a B on her last quiz, so her extra time to study is starting to pay off. She seems to have a good grasp on this chapter's material, covering springs, the spring constant, energy and conserved and non-conserved forces. We went over a couple of problems and concepts, and she has the methods down. Her final will be comprehensive, and her teacher may cover some previous concepts in this next quiz, so she is going to read back over some of the previous material. She is optimistic about the next month."
"Today, we focused on concepts in rotational kinematics, rotational dynamics, and angular momentum. We began discussing concepts in rotational kinematics, referencing the similarities to linear (translational) kinematics. We discussed the relevance of the radial constant and how angular kinematics values are linear/radius. After completing several practice problems in kinematics, we completed some additional problems and concepts in dynamics. We discussed the concepts and calculations for moment of inertia for various shapes and the importance of learning the individual derivations (calculus) for the common shapes (rod about end, rod about center, and disk/cylinder). Lastly, we completed some conservation of rotational energy (and total ME)."
"Topics covered included Newton's law of gravitation and centripetal acceleration. We discussed problem-solving strategies for calculating the effect on a particular variable when a related variable is changed by a factor. Identifying linear relationships between variables was also covered. A practice quiz was retaken, and the student scored 10/10."
"We completed a final review of kinematics today in preparation for her midterms tomorrow. She'll be reviewing the formula sheet I made her tonight. I am enthusiastic about her performance on this exam."
