Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We role-played a game show to create sentences for points, reviewed her vocabulary and worked on writing characters for homework."
"We first did reviews, I gave her a little test and the student was great in remembering all those things; she made only 2 mistakes among almost 15 new words we've learned in past sessions. Today's new vocab words were: "fire" "mountain" "volcano" "water" "have" "mud" and "sharp." the story I told her was "Rabbit and Turtle's Running Competition," and "The Vampire Who Eats Ice Cream and Drinks Salad." In that story, she also learned the word "Vampire." Homework was to review the vocab we learned today and read a little story in Chinese and then re-tell me the next time off book (using her own words in Chinese)."
"I spent the first half hour with the student working on a social studies essay. We reviewed vocabulary and went over how to say locations in Chinese. I also gave him some sentences to translate for homework."
"The student took quiz no. 2. Then, we revised it together with all the structures involved, including a review of "a me me gusta/n" and the difference between mi and me with examples written by him. We also had a pronunciation review of the /rr/ sound. For reading comprehension, the student read the text and identified true and false statements."
"The student tried out a couple of new Spanish games online on grammar, spelling and reading comprehension. We also worked on writing, particularly descriptions, while practicing conversation around this technique."
"The student was eager to share her answers on the diagnostic questions. I gave her a packet on simple verbs and -ar conjugation, the same packet I gave to my other student. She has a solid foundation, and I assigned her the packet as homework and let her know we can move pretty quickly into -er- and -ir verbs in present-tense next time. It's great that she asks a lot of questions that come to her spontaneously about more advanced grammar topics. She's in a conversation group and is hearing some things there that are quite advanced. I'm looking forward to working with the books of children's stories she has on hand and wants to work with. With this student the plan will be to ensure grounding in the basics but make time during each session for freer conversation as well in Spanish. That's already starting to happen."
