Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we continued on the topic of rotational motion. Last session covered beams (statics), whereas this session covered rotational motion (dynamics). The student demonstrated knowledge of kinematic equations, which are essential for these problems."
"During our time together, the students and I worked hard at preparing for their science test covering mitosis/meiosis and other aspects of the cell cycle. By the end of the session, they had a very clear understanding of the material that the test was going to cover. Once we were done with this, we worked on the first student's math homework covering box and whisker plots. Although there were some concepts to iron out here he did show mastery of the ideas by the end of the session."
"In this session we reviewed the two units of heat and thermodynamics that will be on Thursday's exam. We practiced the terminology and concepts of heat, kinetic energy, specific heat, and the laws of thermodynamics. The student will continue to review these terms and concepts. I asked him to send me a copy of his study guide when he completes it and I would be available to discuss it further with him before his exam. He has successfully been admitted into the advance science program for high school in the following academic year. This was one of his goals for the academic year."
"Our first session went well. The student is very mindful and kind. We mostly covered the fundamentals of setting up an experiment: variables (independent, dependent, controlled), control group, research questions, etc. He is learning to critically think about the material. Also he is beginning to make his answers and explanations more concise. He will be updating me on any new topics we will be covering on Thursday. I look forward to our next session."
"Reviewed macromolecule structures for proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids in more detail. She had to illustrate these concepts on the whiteboard and for her, it is a great method for developing a better understanding of the concepts. A good session."
"The student and I met again, as he had just recently begun a new biology course. We went over some of the core concepts that he would be expected to know for his upcoming test on Tuesday. We focused mainly on enzymes - enzymatic structure, function, specificity, and factors affecting enzyme activity. We finish the lesson off by briefly diving into photosynthesis, with a focus on how the dark/light reactions are important for both the plant and each other."
