Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We started with a review of the student's current writing assignment, one of weekly assignments for a particular class requiring extensive writing for online submission. Her writing is about average for a master's level student. Her grammar is generally good; she just needs to refine her use of tenses and compound/complex sentences. She doesn't have problems with fragment, run-ons, or other egregious grammatical gaffs. Also, I will work with her on better word selection. Our plans are to meet once a week, on Tuesdays, but with a break over the holidays. At next week's session, we will review the weekly paper requirements for another of her classes, critique the current one, and review techniques for editing to make a document more concise without sacrificing content."
"The student had a great session. He was very engaged and seems to enjoy writing practice more when he is making up a story. His spelling is really improving, and he was very responsive to my requests."
"During first session with student, identified areas in which she would like to focus on during future sessions, such as writing, building more extensive vocabulary, test-taking strategies and preparation, and general study skills. Learned hobbies, interests, likes and dislikes of school subjects in order to be create effective sessions with student by tailoring it to her needs. Student takeaway was to find a book that she likes in order to work on building vocabulary and also work on strengthening memory."
