Centennial, CO Reading tutoring
The student has shown he is comfortable with the book he has been reading. Although he has been skipping less words and only sometimes mispronounces words because of their vowels, I will try to integrate harder reading material that is closer to the third-grade reading level as well. We also learned about blend sounds today, which include two consonants to make a sound that combines both letters.

The student and I continued to read our book, The Jungle Book. We reviewed vocabulary words from the text and afterwards we practiced making words using scrabble tiles. This is helpful to continue to expand his vocabulary. I am encouraged with how many new words it seems that he is remembering and understanding.

First, I introduced the new high frequency words to the student. The words he struggled with were: bill, end, yard, soon, street, might, nothing, until, inside, wall, step, watch, river, hair, plant, mouth, dark, together, and trouble. After studying for his spelling test, we reviewed the high frequency words again. We then played high frequency word game. The last activity we did was sort the letters of the alphabet into two piles: consonants and vowels. The student knew all the letter sounds. We then reviewed popular word families. He was able to identify a majority of the sounds.

We started the session by buddy reading "Two Bobbies," a picture book about a dog and cat left homeless after Hurricane Katrina. The book is a third grade reading level, but the student was able to read most of it. There were many proper nouns that I had to help her with, but she enjoyed the content and had a high level of comprehension. She was eager to practice our flashcards that we have been practicing. She has a 100% level of recognition of the cards involving e controlled long vowels, and was also able to read all of our multisyllabic cards, however many she needed to take a few seconds to sound out each syllable, which I reminded her was fine and encouraged her to take her time.
