"We focused on punctuation in today's lesson. First we went over the students' homework essays, which were to describe their favorite TV shows. I pulled out a run-on sentence from each of their essays and had the students correct them. We then worked on punctuation exercises in their writing workbook that worked on using periods and question marks. I wrote a short story with deliberate errors for them to proofread and correct for homework."
"The student continued work on the rough draft of her research paper. She worked to fully incorporate her sources and citations and began tweaking the word choice and layout of the paper's argument. Tomorrow she will get into filling the gaps within paper topics."
"The student and I went over her rough draft of her essay due the following day. This included some rewriting, expansion and additional formatting to put it up to MLA standards of citation. When finished, I helped critique something she had written for an admissions portfolio."
"The student and I began by working on short responses and the essay. She has definitely improved on these sections, though they're still weaker than her multiple choice section (she does very well on the multiple choice). We finished by doing more multiple choice and she did well on it."
"The client wanted additional help with his English paper on "Fahrenheit 451." Specifically, he needed to write an introduction and a conclusion to the body of his draft, which he had already written. His teacher gave him a packet, outlining what information he needs to include in his introduction and his conclusion, and I reviewed this packet with the client. He identified what he needed to write, and I helped him tie his thoughts together, with transitional phrases. He then typed out his introduction and conclusion."
"The student worked on the creation of an essay about the his characteristics in the 3rd person. We then reviewed the stylistic tools used by the author in "The Book Thief," including foreshadowing and personification."
