Tutoring review by Thomas in Cedarville, OH
This week the student and I worked on more linear equations homework, and I'm proud to say he's become the little expert at it now! He's doing the majority of his homework with little to no assistance, and I can't help but smile at the level of progress he's made since we first met.

We went over chapters 9 and 11 in her science book, covering Earth's atmosphere, sound/light waves, calories, phytoplanktons and their shells as carbon sink, and rotation of Earth in different seasons. We will cover more chapters next week.

In this session with the student, we tackled a new math assignment from school. The concepts were all new, and it was due the next day. The main concepts covered are midpoint and distance of coordinates and equations of a circle. As always, we tackled it one segment at a time, where I do a problem step-by-step, write down the formulae and techniques, and then she tries some on her own. Then we check them together and iron out any creases in understanding. I left her with detailed notes and tips to improve. Today, her mother said she did really well in her last math test, so I believe she is improving.

Tutoring review by Jeff in Cedarville, OH
We discussed the ch. 1 test results. She earned a 77%. She lost 10 points for not labeling a box plot. In AP stats it's very important to label any graph on your work. There were some other minor issues regarding quartiles that we discussed. She understood what she did wrong. We spent the remainder of the time with her working on chapter 2 homework. The topic she covered was normal distribution probability calculations using z-scores and the standard normal table. We went over calculating probabilities below, above and between certain observations on a normal distribution. We also went over the case of calculating observation values given a specific proportion (backwards z-score calculations). We briefly discussed normal probability plots and how to do them on the TI-83 calculator. It would be a good idea to discuss this for next session. She is catching on quickly to the material it seems. She needs to make sure to practice answering questions in complete sentences, and making sure to write formulas first and then substitute numbers into the formula afterwards.

Good session. We worked on the upper level SSAT. We focused on sequences and probability. We then moved on to looking at solving perimeter questions for polygons. We also did a bit of working with scientific notation.

Tutoring review by Basil in Cedarville, OH
We covered position equations for one-dimensional constant-acceleration motion. We used derivatives to calculate instantaneous velocity, etc. After working several example problems, we reviewed the product rule and discussed its proof, as well as examples and applications. Finally, we introduced formal definitions of Euler's number and previewed its use in differentiating exponential and logarithmic functions.
