How can Reading tutoring help you?

The ability to read is one of the most cherished, important skills that a student can have in their educational arsenal. Without solid reading skills, a student won't be able to keep up in any of their future academic endeavors. Reading is required in every area of academia, and the level or reading expected out of a student only gets more intensive as they progress through the grade levels. That's why it's crucial that students develop good reading skills early on. Fortunately, there is hope for those students who are struggling to do so. If your child is having trouble learning how to read, consider partnering them with a personal reading tutor. For assistance in helping your child understand their reading course in Cedar Park, contact Varsity Tutors.

An expert tutor in Cedar Park, TX, can plan engaging study sessions with your child's interests in mind so they can enjoy learning about reading. That's one of the main benefits of one-on-one reading tutoring: it's completely customized. Everything a tutor does will be founded on your child's unique learning style. Personalization is critical when it comes to teaching a student how to read, because every student learns differently. A personal reading tutor will come to every session with an array of reading strategies, tips, and resources, and your child could get to help choose which ones work the best for them. You can be confident that your child could be learning to read in the most strategic way possible as they work with a reading tutor.

Session Summaries by Reading Tutors

Cedar Park, TX Reading tutoring
Today the student was able to engage during reading. We will keep reviewing different phonic sounds such as diphthongs and digraphs, while referring to examples of them in the chapters of the book we are reading. He seems to be comfortable reading "The Magic Treehouse" book. Soon, we can read more challenging material as he becomes more comfortable with reading aloud and reading sentences properly with less skipping over words. He is realizing what words he is reading and what words are on the page.

We reviewed how to determine the theme of a story. We also set a goal to have the student read at least one chapter per week from the assigned book "Mockingjay." He and I completed reading chapter 2 for this book and then I guided him through completing a graphic organizer, highlighting the summary of the chapter and making a prediction for the next chapter. We discussed that no prediction is "wrong," as long as it is logical and based upon previous readings and what you know of the characters.

We read a new book all the way through today and still had time to go over vocab and spelling words. The student did really well with his vocab words and, actually, had a pretty easy time with the spelling words too. For the last ten minutes we worked on handwriting in his workbook and I think his capital letters are slowly improving. He did really well with his work.

We practiced reading full sentences with multiple silent "e" words. The only words he had trouble with were the long "i" words, like "fire". We then practiced the long "u" sound, because it is the only long vowel he couldn't say immediately upon being asked.

I gave student 1 a few books to do the five-finger test and choose one to read. Then she read a few pages from the book she picked. She also read a short book and identified the problem and solution. I had student 2 read a few short stories and answered some comprehension questions. Then he continued to read another book.

We continued working on letter recognition. We practiced naming the letters and writing them in salt. She also wrote the four names of her family members on her own. She does not yet have the letters in her long term memory. I want to work on letter and picture connecting next week to see if that will help with her letter recognition. We also worked on writing the digits 1-9. I want her to do some number tracing next week. I left them with letter cards to practice the letters we reviewed this week.
