Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We began this session by reviewing the practice math sections we had done during the previous class. We created a new outline of topics that he had gotten wrong on these sections. The list was shorter, and, although it contained some of the same topics that were on the previous outline, the number of incorrect questions were fewer. We resolved to go over the topics again during the next session and that he will have a chance to take two other math sections as practice to redeem himself. During the remaining time I had him complete a reading comprehension section, and while he did that, I went over another reading comprehension section and graded that so he will be able to complete that reading comprehension section as I am grading the one that he finished. He finished a little before I did so he reviewed his vocabulary words, and as the session concluded, I helped him review the words. Next time we will review the math questions that he got incorrect and have him take the other reading comprehension section."
"This session focused on the reading comprehension and essay sections of the ISEE. We began by reviewing the student's homework essay that he wrote in 30 minutes on history's most important scientific advance. Right now, we are focusing on the structure of the essay and the set up of the introduction paragraph. He is already beginning to improve his essay structuring. We worked on the specificity of his thesis and adding commentary to the evidence sections of his middle paragraphs. He also has been doing very well at reading comprehension, with improved question accuracy and ability to understand a passage's overall meaning. We focused on speed and note taking to improve his ability to move between the questions and the passage."
"The student and I worked solely on math, namely standard arithmetic. We covered only a small percentage of the arithmetic section. We backtracked quite a bit, but we managed to successfully navigate through half of the arithmetic concepts. I assigned him some homework to be sure that he gets some math practice over the week! The homework contained basic number line review and how to navigate (add/subtract) numbers from the number line."
