Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed alkene addition reactions and covered a multitude of examples and mechanisms as the student prepares for her exam next week. We discussed what she will need to continue to review for this material. She seemed to gradually become more comfortable with the material as the session went on."
"In this session, we reviewed all of the word beginnings, endings, and vowel sounds that we have worked on in previous sessions. We specifically reviewed tough sounds like "tion," and "cial." The student is able to recognize most of the sounds that we have previously discussed. We spent more time reading aloud in this session, in order to practice identifying unknown words. He was reading challenging fifth grade texts, with fair accuracy. He continues to make great improvements!"
"The student and I reviewed some sentence correction questions from her homework. She is having some problems with the basic agreement issues. I asked her to do 10 more for homework this week and to complete the previous CR assignment. We then turned to problem solving numbers 1 - 7 and critical reasoning numbers 1 - 5 from the prep book. She did fairly well. We will continue our practice regimen next session."
"The student completed her homework. She was not feeling confident with punctuation in the sentence completions, so we reviewed the rules and did copious practice. She's definitely getting better at eliminating answer choices, and I continued to impress upon her the value of only needing to find one error to eliminate and answer choice. We also looked at a few probability questions that were difficult for her, and she did quite well."
"The student did nice work on the catch-up strategy, and we also looked at some geometry and ratios. The student should practice those ratios. "The Phocid" reading was challenging, and the biggest takeaway is to watch for clarity. Finally, we did a few difficult CRs."
"The student did some problem sets from the guide book, and we used those to frame our meeting today. We discussed a variety of topics, including the sum of a series of consecutive numbers, probability in the abstract, and some difficult pattern question concepts--ways to 'feel around' for the right answer when the question invites you to do a lot of unmanageable math. He's going to try to get a full length test in this week before we meet next weekend."
