Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, the student and I worked on reading and summarizing skills. She had an article and a segment from a biography to read for a homework assignment, so we read and summarized together. After the summary, there were some reading comprehension activities that she completed. She continues to make great progress and has strong reading and summarizing skills."
"The session was moved into high gear. We worked on six different short conversations. The student tried it as it would be on the exam, then got to read the script and then try again. He has been given seven new short conversations and six formal speaking practices to do this week. If he finishes them, he is going to let me know that he needs more before next week. I have suggested that he find a friend or classmate with whom to work on these to motivate and help review and critique."
"The student did excellently in this session as we arduously continued to study for her AP Spanish exam in May. She has greatly improved since she started. Her grammar and conjugation skills are a work in progress, but she is on the right track. She has learned a lot from our sessions."
"Today, we reviewed multiple-choice questions and both speaking portions of the AP Spanish Language Exam. We practiced multiple choice questions involving idioms, reading comprehension, and visual sources. The questions were a bit easier than she has seen in class so for tomorrow's session, I will prepare more challenging questions. We practiced three different conversational dialogues as well as one cultural comparison presentation. She did a great job using high-level vocabulary and grammar and we discussed some different strategies for using up more time. Tomorrow we are going to work on becoming more familiar with the test format as well as timing for each sort of question."
"We continued to review for the AP exam. First, we started by drafting sample responses for the presentational speaking section of the exam. We read them aloud and critiqued each other. We also talked about the interpersonal writing section and practiced coming up with questions that could be included in our responses and that related to the letters. I think the session went well and that the student feels better about the exam."
"Today we prepared for the exam on the role of woman in Iberoamerican cultures. We reviewed the economic, health, and political achievements as well as the challenges of women in Spain, Colombia, and Argentina. The student did a grammar review of the past, future, present, preterite, subjunctive, conditional, and imperfect tenses."
