How can Science tutoring help you succeed?

If your child is struggling in science, they're not alone. Many students, even those who excel in all their other subjects, face challenges when it comes to scientific concepts. With state standardized testing like the AzMERIT and AIMS becoming increasingly more difficult, your son or daughter may not feel adequately prepared to handle the science portions of these tests. If your child's science grade is preventing them from living up to their academic potential, you can enlist the help of a private tutor who might help them reach their goals. The educational directors at Varsity Tutors could help you locate a science tutor in Catalina Foothills, AZ, who will motivate your child to reach beyond their goals.

Science is a unique subject in that it requires students to not only memorize massive amounts of information, but also to understand the material and know how to apply what they learn. Each of the independent science tutors that we could help you find in Catalina Foothills has experience in science. They understand the kind of material your daughter or son could see on the AzMERIT and AIMS standardized tests, so they know how to help them prepare. With a private tutor, your child might benefit from being able to ask as many questions as they need, and only focus on the material that is most important to them.

Session Summaries by Science Tutors

Catalina Foothills, AZ Science tutoring
My session with the student was only one hour long. We covered more topics regarding electronic configuration, and trends in the periodic table, such as ionization energy, electron affinity, and atomic radii. We worked 6 different problems from the book, some of which were homework problems. Alex is becoming very confident with the material, and it is great to see his progress.

Today the student had questions mostly over chemistry, especially on orbital notation and electrons. We went over all of the different aspects of electrons, including orbitals, energy levels, and periodic trends. We also worked on frequency and wavelength. She had some physics to work on, continuing with acceleration, velocity, time, and displacement. We mostly went over how to apply the equations to the word problems she was given.

We discussed periodic trends (electronegativity, atom size, and reactivity/ionization), ionization energy, electron orbitals and spin, spectroscopy, and electron excitation and ionization. We began the lesson with word problems but found that there were conceptual foundations that we needed to review before the student could understand the word problems. It was more effective to discuss the concepts she had trouble with.

Then using the balanced equation to determine the limiting reagent and the theoretical yield and calculating the experimental yield. She will have a lecture Wednesday and wants to review that material before the test Thursday. We will meet again Wednesday.
