How can GRE tutoring help you?

If you are interested in enrolling in a graduate school program, you will likely have to take the GRE test, also called the Graduate Record Exam. Many universities require GRE test scores to be submitted as part of the application process for graduate school.

The GRE measures your verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical writing skills. Depending on the school you are interested in attending, you may also need to take one or more of the GRE Subject tests. Doing well on the GRE is an indication to the school you are applying to that you would be a good candidate for advanced post-secondary studies. The student and I did more review of his math homework for the week. We also read a non-fiction article and answered 5 multiple-choice questions on it. He did very well on this today. He is strong in this and able to go back and find the evidence in the text to answer multiple-choice questions. We also worked on some worksheets on nouns and adjectives. He was able to identify most nouns but struggled a bit with adjectives. We will continue to work on this, as well as the other parts of speech.

I started by asking the student to tell me about himself, and learned that he loves fishing and traveling. I had him write a paragraph about his recent trip to Florida, and we corrected it together. Then we read the first two chapters of an abridged version of HG Wells' "The Invisible Man." He loved the premise of a man with a "superpower" and I had him write down predictions of what will happen. As we keep reading, I'll have him write book summaries. We finished by doing a grammar and punctuation worksheet to improve his recognition of common paragraph mistakes.
