Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has a big test coming up this week, so we had an extra-long session to study together. She has not done well on the quizzes in these units and really wants to do well on the test. We worked through the practice test she had. She struggled the most with factoring (especially "special" formulas like difference of cubes, etc.) and then on some of the questions asking for the equation of a function given the imaginary zeros. We focused on these and did extra problems, and by the end of the night she was feeling more confident."
"The student has a couple of make-up exams coming up on Monday, so we went over the material for both exams. The first half of our session was focused on simplifying expressions. He did very well with the material; he's very quick and sharp. For the second half of our session, we focused on solving any qualities and graphing the answer on a number line. The problems we did were fairly difficult, but he was able to do them all without a problem. We will be focusing on mindfulness strategies to help him stay present and avoid small errors in his work."
"The student has a cumulative final tomorrow and Thursday. He informed me that he wanted to go over the volume and surface area of a sphere, solving algebraic expressions, and inequalities. We also finished with a few angle problems. We are scheduled to meet again tomorrow to review more specific subjects."
"The student has a cumulative test coming up, so she asked to review the concepts she's learned so far in algebra 2. We focused on writing recursive and closed-form formulas for sequences given in table form. She did well."
"The student has a cumulative test on Thursday; she got a take-home practice test, which we worked on today. We reviewed completing the square. We solidified quadratic inequalities and their graphs. We also reviewed the square root property and the zero product theorem."
"The student has a final coming up, so we reviewed some concepts she needed help with. We thoroughly reviewed order of operations, writing and solving variable expressions, and proportions. We also covered probability and rate problems. She needed help with proportions, and felt better toward the end of session. At the end, she said she felt comfortable with the material. She can solve any problem put in front of her. I stressed to her the importance of writing down each step to solve a problem, and committing it to memory, so that when she gets a problem, she knows exactly what to do. We did many practice problems. She made a 90% on her last test, so that is very positive."
