Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During today's session, the student was ready to start revising his essay as soon as I got there. We reviewed the rubric and his notes from yesterday, and he started writing. His revised version was a drastic improvement from the original essay. I would give him a very strong 3. We talked about the differences between the original essay and the revised essay and discussed what made the revised essay so much better. I gave the student a new prompt and tried something new with him. I had him plan for the essay and then told him to pick one of the ideas and write the paragraph for it. After he wrote one body paragraph, I asked him to choose another idea and write a paragraph for it. The two paragraphs were very strong, but were not connected very well. I expected the lack of connection and was pleasantly surprised by the content and organization of the paragraphs. We discussed the strong points and plan to work on connecting the ideas during tomorrow's session. I think there might be a new strategy in the making for the student to use."
"In our first two-hour session (which I think is a good step because it is closer to replicating the amount of concentration the student will need during the actual test), we went over a verbal section and a writing section. The student has made GREAT strides in both of these areas, and he seems more and more comfortable with the approach on which we have worked. His ability on the reading comprehension sections has made a major jump up, as he really has embraced the approach of using the passage to justify his answers."
"Today we continued with chemistry. We are in the equilibrium, acid, base, and solubility chapter. We worked on ICE tables for a long time, did solubility trends and tables, and started ph."
