Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"My first tutoring session with the student went well. As she expressed in our introductory call, she needs more help on the Verbal sections that she does on the Quantitative sections, since she likes math a lot. The student has taken a diagnostic practice exam. We started our session by going over practice questions in the Reading Comprehension section of the Diagnostic Test in the test prep book. The student is most concerned about Reading Comprehension, followed by Critical Reasoning. I explained strategies to work through Reading Comprehension passages and questions, including identifying keywords, briefly summarizing the meaning of each paragraph in your own words, eliminating incorrect answers, and recognizing what the question is asking. We then moved to the Critical Reasoning section and subsequently Sentence Correction section. We applied strategies for each section, which helped the student understand how to approach these types of questions. She is now feeling better about the exam overall. For our next tutoring session, we will complete the Sentence Correction questions in the Diagnostic Test and review additional Reading Comprehension and Critical Reasoning questions in the guide book."
"We worked exponents (again) plus probability. Tomorrow we will continue with probability and work rate and geometry. The student is doing very well."
"The student and I started by working through some of the difficult number theory homework problems that I gave her last session. We then finished our review of geometry, including four sided figures, three dimensional figures, and coordinate geometry. Next class we will begin to review commonly tested sentence correction rules."
